Investment capital is sought for specific purposes. These are to further develop variants of the technology, to solve specific technical challenges and to develop pilot scale apparatus for commercial demonstration.

Specific target areas for investment are:

• Optimisation of process, a task aimed at finishing an improved overall characterisation of the technical processes. This will be achieved by studying the influences that process conditions have over the quality of the outputs, energy consumption, residence time and product handling. The data will be applied to improve overall efficiency and value.
• Optimisation of the plasma, a task focusing on the development of techniques that maximise the efficacy of plasma created during the carbon activation stage. Plasma optimisation is achievable by evolving the core design to improve plasma contact in the reactor, balancing improvements to maintain process repeatability and machine durability. Improvements in the efficacy of plasma treatment will be applied to further leverage the advantages of Carbonscape’s unique carbon activation process.
• Catalyst development; exploring improved catalyst formulations to enhance the yields and character of bio-oil and bio-solvent outputs. Certain catalyst additions have already shown to improve the quality of the Carbonscape extracted bio-oils, and further improvements are possible with further exploration.
• Real-time analytics and the development of instrumentation to provide improved process monitoring for rolling parameter adjustment. Carbonscape’s process already utilises a range of real-time instruments but in future will include additional online instruments such as gas analysers, pyrometric temperature sensors and moisture meters to support operation at the optimum parameter ‘sweet spots’.
