Green coke is an environmentally sustainable substitute for metallurgical coal used in the steel manufacturing industry. CarbonScape has developed a rapid, ecologically friendly green coke production process using sustainable waste biomass such as sawdust.
One of the World Steel Association’s top priorities is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the steel industry by methods that include implementation of radical steel making technologies with a smaller carbon footprint.
In 2015, world steel producers used 700 million tonnes of coke to make 1.6 billion tonnes of steel. China was responsible for around 50% of this output. The steel industry is responsible for producing 7.8% of global carbon dioxide emissions. The use of CarbonScape’s green coke is estimated to halve this. This is a major global public good opportunity for the company.
